“I hope viewers would look beyond a surface likeness and engage with the mood, atmosphere, and feeling within the work — approaching it with curiosity and sensitivity.”
Irina is a contemporary Russian-born British painter, residing in Singapore since 2017.
Living in a tropical climate has reshaped the artist’s subject matter and palette. Aware that her time in Singapore is limited, Irina feels compelled to record as much as she can of what she observes around her on canvas. She offers viewers a different perspective on familiar surroundings — seen through the eyes of an outsider, a guest in this landscape.
Irina regards her paintings as a visual diary. Through her work, she invites viewers to form new memories, revisit familiar places, and reconnect with past experiences — creating paintings that bring a sense of quiet, lasting joy to live with.
Her traditional art education in Russia continues to guide her practice, rooted in observation and life drawing. She explores the interaction of light and colour, and the new shapes and forms that emerge when they meet. Working across a variety of materials, oil paint remains her preferred medium for its flexibility and expressive range.
